Twin Cities Decorative Artists Guild
Community Projects
Memory boxes are painted by members and delivered to area hospitals for distribution to parents
suffering the almost unbearable loss of a new-born child, be it full term or premature. The boxes
are used to hold that special lock of hair, ID bracelet or other mementos that these grieving
parents hold dear.
Many chapters of the SDP and other individuals participate in this nation-wide service project.
Plain boxes are furnished by the TCDAG and members then paint and decorate them. The project
chairman collects and then delivers the boxes to area hospitals.
St. Joseph's Home for Children Journal Project (Ongoing)
This project was started in 2011. The St. Joseph's Home for Children, located in the Twin Cities,
takes in children who are in violent situations or not wanted. Many times they are brought to the
Home by police who have taken them from their environments abruptly. They arrive at the home
many times with nothing but what they are wearing. We collect hotel size shampoo bottles, soap,
etc., and provide them to the home. The children, from ages 5 to 18, are educated, counseled, and
live at the Home. They are asked to write in journals as part of their program. TCDAG purchases
composition books and the fronts and backs are painted with age and gender appropriate
designs.
